Tattoo Preparation & Aftercare The Session Guide

A tattoo is a permanent collaboration. Here is how to prepare your skin for the session and preserve the work afterward.

Phase I: Preparing the Canvas

01. Hydration & Elasticity

Arrive well hydrated. If you already use a plain moisturizer that agrees with your skin, you can keep your normal routine before the appointment. Do not apply lotion to the area on the appointment day.

02. The Surface Condition

A fresh scrape, rash, irritation, or sunburn can make tattooing unsafe. Tell Yana before the appointment if the area is not in its normal condition so the studio can decide whether rescheduling is necessary.

Shaving: I prefer to prepare the area myself to avoid razor burn or irritation. Please leave the hair natural.

03. Fuel & Rest

Get a full night’s sleep when possible and eat a proper meal before your session. Do not arrive on an empty stomach.

Phase II: The Studio Protocol

The Environment

The studio is designed for a focused, low-stimulation appointment. One guest may accompany you with advance notice, and every guest must be at least 18. You are also welcome to come alone and bring headphones or an audiobook.

Attire

Wear loose, dark clothing that allows easy access to the placement area. Ink can travel; please wear garments you don't mind potentially staining.

Health & Studio Safety

Do not drink alcohol or use drugs before the appointment. Foxy Ink will not tattoo anyone who is impaired.

Tell Yana in advance about any medication, allergy, medical condition, or skin condition that could affect tattooing or healing. Do not stop or change medication for an appointment without advice from your prescriber. Ask before applying a numbing product so Yana can confirm whether it is compatible with the planned session.

Phase III: Preservation (Aftercare)

The tattoo is finished, but the process is not. You are now responsible for the healing of this piece.

The Second Skin (Days 1–3)

If Yana applies a film dressing, she will tell you how long to keep it in place. Some fluid beneath an intact dressing can be expected.

Leakage: If the seal breaks or fluid leaks out, follow the removal and washing instructions Yana provided at the appointment.

The Removal

Wash your hands first. Remove the film gently under comfortably warm running water, pulling it back low and parallel to the skin. Wash the tattoo with a mild, fragrance-free soap and pat it dry with a clean disposable paper towel. Do not scrub.

The Healing (Weeks 2–4)

Moisturize: Apply a very small amount of plain, fragrance-free lotion when the skin feels tight or dry. Do not over-saturate.

Protect: While the tattoo is healing, avoid pools, hot tubs, baths, open water, and direct sun. Avoid friction and clothing that sticks to the area.

Patience: Flaking and itching can occur during healing. Do not pick or scratch.

This page describes Foxy Ink studio policy and general aftercare practice; it is not medical advice. Seek prompt advice from a qualified healthcare professional if you are concerned about infection, an allergic reaction, worsening pain, spreading redness, fever, or anything else that feels medically concerning.
